Swimmers

I meant to blog this last Friday but .... well .... It's here now.

On Friday mornings I do aqua aerobics. I apologise for those of you who have met me and now have a mental image. For those of you to whom I am a cyber friend, use that, and imagine a size 8 supermodel effortlessly gliding through the water.

Last Friday I turned up to my class to find that the local high school had descended on the pool, and were sitting right next to the place we do aqua aerobics. Now for those of you who don't know much about aqua aerobics, it is the exercise of choice for those who are old, fat or maimed. To quote one of the women, "I'm going down the deep end, so the kids don't have to watch my flobberly bits."

Anyway once the class finally, got started we all got involved kicking, swimming, exercising, subjecting ourselves to all kinds of water torcher. We ultimately didn't mind that we were being watched by a group of teenagers.

Afterwards as we got of the pool, still old, fat or maimed, but now also, hot, sweaty, red and sopping wet. We were reflecting that we were not self conscious about our bodies, especially when compared to our own high school pool excursion experiences (and many of these girls and boys immediate experience). These days many of us would pay good money, and would have to pay lots of it, to look even half as svelte as we did when we were teenagers, but are so much more confident about who we are and our bodies that we don't need to.

If given the option of the self confidence and body I have now, or the body I had a fourteen and all the self image issues that go along with being a teenager. I will pick now every time.

100th Post

This is my 100th post!!!!

Just amazing, I would have never thought I would get this far, either did anyone else.

In looking back over the past year and a bit, I think the reason I have is that it is more than just putting my stuff out there, it's about being part of community.

I would never have lasted as long as I have if it wasn't for the family and friends that have supported me and read my blog.

I sound like a Oscar winner!, I'd like to thank my mooooom and daaad, supporting me as a young actor, to my agent and to all you wonderful people who watch my crappy movies and still tell me I'm wonderful, your definitely worth every cent I pay you. And most of all I like to that Gawwd, Thank you thank you, kiss kiss kiss. ( Standing blowing kisses to the crowd in a figure hugging size 8 red strapless number that I look fabulous in)

Sorry just digressed for a minute there. I have really loved blogging and it has now made it onto my resume as a hobby. The support of the RevGal community has been a wonderful gift to me in some of the not so wonderful times over the past year.

So raise your glasses, and toast to another 100 posts!!

Cheers

Imagination and Einstein

One of the things I love about kids is their unbridled imagination. Their ability to take the most mundane thing, make magic and then look at you like your the fool when you don't see it.

One of my idols is Albert Einstein, now there's a man with a fantastic imagination. I hope that my imagination doesn't fade with age, I do things like pick up a paperclip and see how many uses I can find for it, or a cold bowl of spaghetti.

I have found a number of Einstein quotes about imagination and thought I would share them with you.

"Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions."

"To know is nothing at all; to imagine is everything."

"Imagination is more important than knowledge."

"For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution."

I love the fact that someone who the world considers to be one of the smartest men ever, was more focused on the imagination than knowledge. It doesn't matter how smart you are, what matters is what you do with what God has given you.

We all have imagination, how can we use it to make the world a better place?

Wisdom from an Old fart

Hi

Today is my birthday, I am 32 for those of you wondering, and yes I know I don't look a day past 20.

Anyway I thought to celebrate I would do a "Wisdom from an old fart" entry, otherwise known as "Things I have learnt in the last 32 years"
  1. Initially, although I don't remember learning them, I learnt to eat, sleep, talk, walk, go to potty, kiss, hug and love.
  2. Brothers are both a blessing and a curse. (my cabbage patch doll was never the same again!)
  3. Childhood is not the best time of your life, but is still sacred and needs to be protected.
  4. Love makes life better, and death harder.
  5. Injuries leave scars for a reason. (even if we don't pay attention to them.)
  6. Healthy families make good foundations.
  7. God does actually know what he's doing, no really, amazing huh!
  8. There is no better sound than children laughing.
  9. Food, friends, wine, laughter and fun make a great evening.
  10. Peanut butter is both a food and a paint, and is to be used on glass for best results

So there you go, I have learnt a heap more but thought I'd leave it at 10.

Please feel free to add your pearls of wisdom.

Resignation

This morning I resigned from church.

Financially the church will not be able to support me next year, and so I am now looking for another ministry position.

This is part of the 'stuff' that has been happening over the last little while which I have been unable to blog about.

Please pray for myself and my family as we embark on this next phase of the journey.

It's been a while between drinks....

Hi

It's been about 3 weeks since my last post. This is because there is a number of big things happening at the moment which I am unable to blog about, due to the confidential nature of the issues and the non confidential nature of my blog.

As my blogs tend to be brain dumps and most of my head, at the moment, is full of stuff I can't dump publicly, the blogging will continue to be a bit spasmodic over the next few weeks.

I would appreciate prayer over the next month or so as our church works through a number of difficult decisions about the future. As things are clearer I will blog more about them.

Thank you for the support and prayers I have received over the last few weeks, it has been greatly appreciated.

Go in grace peace and love

Em
